The financial services website war


Financial services isn’t the easiest thing to brand and market.

Not by a long chalk.
And the truth of the matter is that most creative agencies just aren’t up to the task.
It’s not that they don’t have skilled designers and thinkers. Lots of them do.
It’s just that they fail to channel their skills and creativity in the right direction, because they’re not well versed in the specifics of the sector.
So, when you’re selecting an agency for your branding and website, here are just three questions you need to ask:

Have they got experience in building financial services website?

 The fact is that a lot of agencies are ‘jacks of all trade’. They’ll build a website for anyone. Nothing wrong with that, but it does prevent them from really diving deep into what drives people to take action in specific sectors, since they’re always operating on a ‘general’ basis.
Choosing an agency that lives and breathes finance will give you a better chance of ending up with a website that resonates with your target audience, convincing and compelling them to take the next step.

Are they aware of your regulatory constraints?

 The FCA and the SEC exist for good reason. But let’s be straight with each other: they can do your head in at times.
The constraints placed on you, governing what you can and can’t say mean that you need to be super careful with everything you publish, and a lot of agencies tend to get frustrated with that – like their creativity is being stifled.
Choosing an agency that knows the deal from the beginning will prevent a war breaking out between your compliance team and your creatives.

Are they ‘straight out of school’ or grizzled, hardened experts?

Let’s face it, the “design” industry is cool. Which explains why millennials flock to it in their droves. But with something as integral and important as finance, it’s vital to ensure that your creative team understands the landscape, and have the experience to correctly represent your brand to your audience.
